Church location and Service Times The Church and Christian Science Reading Room address is 3575 Ranch Road 620 South, approximately 1 mile north of the State Highway 71 intersection near the Lake Travis area - Location Map Who are We? Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Austin is one of the worldwide branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist located in Boston, Massachusetts. After many years of searching and deep study of the Bible, a New England woman named Mary Baker Eddy discovered and demonstrated the divine laws of spiritual healing based on the life and teachings of Christ, Jesus. The first edition of her principal work, Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures, was published in 1875. Fours years later, a small group of earnest seekers after truth formed a church "without creeds." They were members of evangelical churches, and students of Mrs. Eddy. Branch churches and more informal groups have since grown up in towns and cities all over the world. The Christian Science Church "is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ, even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death;" (Christian Science Church Manual, pg. 19) Today, earnest seekers continue to gather each week to rejoice in the message of the Christ, Truth and to share evidence of the original Christian healing that is as vital today as it was 2000 years ago. At our regular Wednesday testimonial meetings, those attending have the opportunity to share experiences of healing and inspiration gained through the study and practice of Christian Science. Sunday services include readings from the King James Bible and Science and Health, hymns, and prayer. Sunday School is offered for young people up to 20 years of age, and child care for the very young is provided. |
